Whippet Appearance

Origin: Great Britain.

Utilization: Racing dog.

FCI Classification: Group 10 Sighthounds; Section 3 Short-haired Sighthounds. Without working trial.

General appearance: Balanced combination of muscular power and strength with elegance and grace of lines. His body is built for speed and work.  Any form of exaggeration should be avoided.

Behavior /Temperament: cheerful, affectionate and balanced.

Head:

Skull: long, dry; is flat from above and it narrows towards the muzzle; between the eyes is wide enough.

Stop: defined slightly.

Nose: the main color is black.

Acceptable colors:

• in blues - blue nose
• in dogs of liver color - liver
• in isabel - a cream nose.

The color of the nose must match the color of the coat for any other color. The pink nose is inadmissible. In dogs of white or piebald colors is allowed a "butterfly" nose, but the completely unpigmented nose is not permissible.

Teeth / Jaws: powerful, strong; The bite is scissor, the upper incisors densely cover the lower ones without a gap.

Eyes: oval, large. Their survey is 250 degrees (while a person has 180 degrees). On the narrow head, large eyes protrude more sideways in this way allows to expand their the range.

Ears: small, thin, type "rose" - broken on the cartilage and folded inside and backward.

Neck: long, muscular, elegantly curved.

Body:

Topline: You should see a graceful arch in the waist, but the back should not look like a humpback.

Back: wide, strong with good musculature,somewhat long.

Loin: strong.

Chest: very deep, with a large space for the heart; Ribs well rounded and good musculature on the back.

Belly: definitely tuck up.

Forequarters: straight, vertical, are placed not too wide apart.

Shoulders: oblique, muscular, well-marked, are extend to the spine.

Elbows: directed strictly backwards.

Pasterns: strong, elastic.

Paws: a type of "hare" with a strong backbone. Fingers are long and are gathered in clod. Pillows: elastic, strong.

Hindquarters: very strong and can do a powerful push.

Hips: wide.

Knees: have a good angle of joints.

Hock joints: low.

Fingers: collected in a lump.

Pads: thick, elastic.

Tail: long, tapering, densely covered with short wool. In motion, it keeps in a thin bend upwards, but does not rise above the back.

Movement: free.

Coat: the wool is thin, smooth, tight fitting.

Weight: 20 - 42 pounds (9,1-19,1kg).

Height:

• Male 18,5 - 22,5 inches (47-52 cm).
• Female 17,5 - 21,5 inches (44-55cm).

Defects: any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree.

Disqualifying faults:

• Aggressive or overly shy
• Any dog which showing physical or behavioral abnormalities shall be disqualified

N.B.:

• Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
• Only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, with breed typical conformation should be used for breeding.

Color of Whippet

For Whippet any coat color or combination of colors is permissible.

• Brown
• Black
• Sand
• Red-yellow
• White color in combination with any color and different spots, blazes and patches.
