English Bulldog Characteristics




























English Bulldog has a very strong, massive head, powerful shoulders, compact hips, strong body and the formidable jaw. One can say that it does not have anything that looks natural, perhaps many breeders love Bulldog for that.

Origin: Great Britain.
Utilization: Companion Dog.
Classification FCI: Group 2 Pinscher and Schnauzer Molossoid breeds-Swiss Mountain and Cattle Dogs Section 2.1 Molossoid breeds, Mastiff Type. Without working trial.
Body: strong, muscular.
The neck is slightly arched with dewlap.
Head: massive, wide, it seems shorter than it actually is; with respect to the body it looks too large; the circumference of head is approximately equal to the height of dog.
Muzzle: short, broad, flattened with a lot of folds.
Cheeks: well rounded.
Jaws: broad, massive, square with "undershot" the lower jaw projecting considerably in front of the upper jaw and turning up.
The teeth: large, strong with the fangs. The six small teeth are in front, between the canines, on top and bottom jaw.
Lips: thick; flews are thick, hanging greatly and covering the lower jaw.
Nose: black with wide, large nostrils; is deeply seated between the eyes.
Eyes: dark, widely placed and deep-set.
Ears: small, thin, slightly bent and laid back, widely placed.
Chest: very wide.
Tail: short, hangs down; at the base of a straight shape.
Movement: heavy; step is short, quick. Hind legs almost are not risen while walking; shoulders are nominated forward alternately.
Coat is short, close and smooth (hard only from shortness and closeness, not wiry) fine texture.
Skin is assembled in different folds (this feature is necessary to protect dog's eyes from the blood when it is wounded in a fight)
Weight of English Bulldog:
- Male: 25 kg.
- Female: 23 kg.
Faults: any deviation from the foregoing points should be considered as faults.
Disqualifying Faults:
- Aggressive or overly shy.
- Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioural abnormalities shall be disqualified.
N.B.: Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.

It has a black "mask" on the muzzle.
